Deacs Down Arizona State, 4-1

TEMPE, ARIZ. – Wake Forest extended its winning streak to four matches with a 4-1 win over Arizona State on Sunday afternoon. The Deacons improve to 12-3 overall in dual match play.
"It was nice to get the road win and get another outdoor match under our belts," head coach Tony Bresky said. "Arizona State is an excellent program and we are fortunate to get the win. We are very much looking forward to travelling to Los Angeles to play USC."
The Demon Deacons took an early 1-0 lead after capturing the doubles point. Eduardo Nava and Henri Squire picked up the first win of the day with a 6-3 decision on the top court. Arizona State evened doubles at 1-1, taking court three 6-4. The doubles point fell in the hands of Taha Baadi and Melios Efstathiou. The Wake duo clinched with a dramatic 7-6(5) victory giving the Demon Deacons a 1-0 advantage heading into singles.
Arizona State picked up the first singles victory on court two, but Wake finished strong with three consecutive singles wins to clinch the non-conference victory.
Eduardo Nava had a strong showing with the Deacs' first singles win, defeating Will Kirkman 6-2, 6-4 on court five to put the Deacs back on top 2-1.
Efstathiou extended Wake's lead to 3-1 following a two-set 6-3, 6-2 in the fourth spot over ASU's Tom LeBlanc. 38th-ranked Bar Botzer clinched the win on court one, cruising past Nathan Ponwith 6-2, 6-4.
The Deacons will continue west as they travel to Los Angeles to face top-ranked USC on Tuesday at 8 p.m.
