GREENSBORO, N.C. – A pair of Demon Deacons earned All-ACC honors as the conference announced the 2020 Men's Basketball Awards on Monday morning. Junior center Olivier Sarr was named to third-team All-ACC and senior guard Brandon Childress was named honorable mention All-ACC.
With Sarr and Childress recognized, this season marks the first time that two Deacons have earned All-ACC honors in the same season since the league expanded to 15 teams.
"I am extremely proud of Olivier and Brandon for these well-deserved honors," said head coach Danny Manning. "They have both worked extremely hard and have been leaders on our team this season. With their play throughout the season, both of them have shown they are among the best players in this league."
Sarr earned third-team honors and was runner-up in the voting for ACC Most Improved Player. He averaged 13.5 points and 8.9 rebounds while posting 10 double-doubles. Sarr was one of four players in the league to twice be named ACC Player of the Week this season as he was recognized on Dec. 2 and Mar. 2. In the Deacons' victory over Notre Dame on Feb. 29, Sarr posted career highs of 30 points and 17 rebounds, becoming just the third Deacon in the past 50 years to have a 30-and-15 game in ACC play.
Childress earned honorable mention honors after leading the Deacs in scoring, assists and steals. He averaged 15.5 points and 4.6 assists per game while recording 36 steals. Childress was the only player in the league to have a 30-point game and a 10-assist game in ACC play this season, scoring a career-high 30 points vs. NC State on Dec. 7 and recording a career-high 10 assists vs. North Carolina on Feb. 11. He had at least 450 points and 125 points for the second consecutive season, one of just two players in the ACC to accomplish the feat.
The Demon Deacons open the ACC Tournament with a first round matchup with Pitt on Tuesday. Game time at the Greensboro Coliseum is 4:30 p.m. and the game will air on ACC Network. The winner will play NC State in the second round on Wednesday afternoon.
