2020 Virtual Black & Golden Globes

Over the course of three days (April 27-29) on social media and on GoDeacs.com, the 2020 Virtual Black & Golden Globes will celebrate the accomplishments of Demon Deacon student-athletes during the 2019 spring, fall and 2019-20 winter sports seasons.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.— During this period of remote-learning and working within the COVID-19 pandemic, Wake Forest Athletics has moved its annual spring awards show for its student-athletes, the Black & Golden Globes, online to social media and GoDeacs.com.
Over the course of three days (April 27-29), the 2020 Virtual Black & Golden Globes will celebrate the accomplishments of Demon Deacon student-athletes, coaches and teams during the 2019 spring, fall and 2019-20 winter sports seasons. The virtual event will spotlight the individual and team achievements across all 18 programs.
From academics, to on-field performances and standout coaching efforts, the Black & Golden Globes has it all covered, which will have Deacon Nation feeling pride, excitement and happiness during this uncertain and unprecedented time.

Monday, April 27 -- 7 - 10 p.m.
- Female Rookie of the Year
- Nominees
- Saby Nihalani -- Women's Tennis
- Posted a 17-12 record in singles play, Tallied an 11-3 record in doubles
- Alexandria Scruggs -- Women's Basketball
- Started 28 of 32 games in her rookie campaign, averaged 5.5 points, 3.9 rebounds, 1.2 assists, shot 80.0 percent from the free throw line
- Peyton Suess - Volleyball
- Led the team with 327 kills in 102 matches, Led the team in kills per set at 3.21, Led the team in points scored at 383, Led the team in service aces with 31, Second on the team in digs, behind only the libero, with 245, Named to All-ACC Academic team
- Aleeya Hutchings -- Indoor Track
- First team All-ACC in 800m and DMR, Finished third at ACC meet in the 800m as a rookie, Ran the 800m leg of the ACC Championship DMR team

- Kenneth Walker III - Football
- Set the true freshman record with 5.9 yards per carry, finished fourth in the ACC in yards per carry, posted 579 yards and four touchdowns on the ground, sealed the Big 4 Championship with 113 yards and the game-winning touchdown in over Duke, school record 96-yard run from scrimmage for touchdown at Rice
- Eugenio Chacarra - Men's Golf
- 2019 ACC Freshman of the Year, had a 71.15 stroke average in 39 rounds played, led the team in rounds played at 39
- Calvin Harris -- Men's Soccer
- Third on the team with six goals, Fourth on the team with 15 points, Scored game-winning goals against Creighton, Houston Baptist and Louisville, Played in all 23 games and started 16 of them, Wake Forest qualified for the 2019 College Cup
- Brendan Tinsman -- Baseball
- Became the first Wake freshman in over a decade to hit 10 homers, Batted .265, also totaling nine doubles and 41 RBIs
- Melios Efstathiou- Men's Tennis
- Finished second on the team in singles wins with a 33-12 record, Was the only player to play a dual match at all six singles positions this year for Wake Forest, earning wins at every spot except No. 2 singles, Posted a perfect 9-0 singles record in ACC play, having finished the year playing primarily at the No. 5 spot

- Chris Eaton - Men's Tennis
- Helped Tony Bresky and the men's tennis team to back-to-back ACC titles and a runner up finish in the NCAA Championships, Men's tennis produced a 34-4 overall record and a 12-0 mark in ACC play
- Warren Ruggiero - Football (Offensive Coordinator)
- Wake Forest finished 15th in the nation in total offense in 2019, the highest-finish ever for a Demon Deacon team. The Deacons also posted an all-time best in third down conversions, finishing 13th nationally. Last fall, Wake Forest's offense finished in the top 25 in the nation in passing offense, total offense, third down conversions, first downs, and fewest fumbles. Wake had one of the most explosive offenses in the country, tying for second among all Power-5 with 100 deep passing attempts according to Pro Football Focus. The Demon Deacons ended the 2019 season averaging 288.3 passing yards per game, ranking second in the ACC and 24th in the country.

- Carlos "Boogie" Basham - Football
- First Team All-ACC selection, Finished the season ranked second in the ACC in sacks and tackles for loss, His 11.0 sacks in 2019 are the second most in program history for a single season, Tallied 2.5 sacks in wins over Big 4 rivals North Carolina and Duke, Currently ranks sixth in program history in career sacks.

- First Team All-ACC selection, Tallied 11 touchdown receptions, which ranked second in program history, Fastest Power-5 player to reach 1,000 yards receiving in 2019, ACC leader in receiving yards with a school record 111.2 yards per game, Four-time ACC Receiver of the Week and led the nation with four games with 150 or more receiving yards, On pace to become the program's all-time leader in touchdown receptions
- Olivier Sarr - Men's Basketball
- Third Team All-ACC selection, Two-time ACC Player of the Week, Became the 3rd Deacon in the past 50 years to have a 30-point/15-rebound game vs. an ACC opponent, Runner-up in ACC Most Improved Player Voting
- Bar Botzer - Men's Tennis
- Recorded 40 singles wins during the season, the second-most in school history, Clinched the ACC tournament title, 2019 ITA Singles All-American, Second Team All-ACC, Named to the All-Tournament Team at the NCAA Championship and the ITA National Team Indoor Championship
- Zach Facioni - Cross Country
- First team All-ACC men's cross country, Fourth at ACC meet, First team All-ACC in Indoor Track in the 3K and 5K, School records set this year in the mile, 3K and 5K
- Bobby Seymour - Baseball (2019)
- Named the ACC Player of the Year, Led all of NCAA Division I with 92 RBIs, the most in the country since 2008, Batted .377 with 20 doubles and nine home runs, Consensus All-American
- Bruno Lapa - Men's Soccer
- Repeated as a first team All-American, Led the team with 23 points on 10 goals and three assists, Scored six game-winning goals, against High Point, NC State, William & Mary, North Carolina, plus Maryland and Michigan in the NCAA Tournament, Led the Deacs to the NCAA College Cup, Team captain

- Ivana Raca - Women's Basketball
- All-ACC Second Team Selection, All-ACC Tournament First Team Selection, Finished fifth in the ACC in points per game with 17.2, Lifted Wake Forest to the ACC Tournament Quarterfinals with 20.33 points per game, Became the 28th member of the 1,000 point club in the final regular season game of the year, 549 points this season ranks fourth in program history

- Second Team All-ACC selection, Posted a 23-14 singles record, 20-15 doubles record
- Caitlyn Della - Volleyball
- Second on the team with 254 kills in 93 matches, Led the team with a .340 attack percentage, Led the team with 96 total blocks (11 solo, 85 assists), Named to All-ACC Second Team
- Anne Van Hoof - Field Hockey
- Led the Deacs with seven goals on the year and added one assist for 15 total points, ranking her second on the team, 23 of her 48 shots on the year were on goal for a .479 shot on goal percentage and her 48 shots ranked seventh in the ACC, NFHCA Second Team All-American, All-ACC Second Team and All-ACC Academic Team
- Jennifer Kupcho - Women's Golf
- Made history as first woman, professional or amateur, to win at Augusta National, WGCA All-American, Second on the team with a 71.43 stroke average, NCAA Woman of the Year finalist, ANNIKA Award finalist
- Emilia Migliaccio - Women's Golf
- 2019 ACC Individual Champion, WGCA All-American, All-ACC Academic team, Had a team-low stroke average of 71.05, Led the team in 31 rounds played
- ACC Top Six for Service
- Lexi Franco, senior women's tennis student-athlete, was appointed as our SAAC President and Santa's Helper community board member. During the 2019-20 academic year, Lexi was instrumental in working with the WFU Office of Civic and Community Engagement and Student Government to make sure that student-athletes were involved in the planning process of five iconic service events. We are proud of Lexi's leadership and service efforts.
- Elijah Shallaway, senior track & field student-athlete, has shown tremendous service and character throughout his four years as a Demon Deacon. As a team captain and SAAC members, Elijah is always a strong encourager and team influencer. We consider him a top server because of his involvement with Dr. Alan Brown and the Skip Prosser Literacy movement. The program promotes reading by 4th grade students in Forsyth County schools and encourages them to read independently through out-of-class reading, in-class self-selected reading, and/or in-class silent-sustained reading.
- Kaleb Bryant, senior men's track student-athlete and SAAC Vice President, is an exceptional example of someone who takes the initiative to create change and spearhead solution-focused action. Kaleb is an active member of SAAC and our Student-Athlete Outreach Group. He proactively led three "Forest Friday" events to help unite student-athletes with traditional campus by providing fellowship through food trucks and fun.
- Cydney Delley, junior track and field student-athlete and ACC SAAC member, has been invested in creating a culture of belonging for all. Cydney participated in the ACC Student-Athlete Mental Health Summit, is a vocal leader for the Student-Athlete Outreach Group, and has participated in UniqueDeac, Forest Fridays, and a Call to Conversation, to continue our campus efforts for inclusivity.
- Abby McNamara, junior women's soccer student-athlete has helped lead her team and WFU Athletics in community engagement this year. Abby has been involved in all campus iconic events: Project Pumpkin, Unique Deac, Hit the Bricks, Skip Prosser Literacy Program and our largest athletic event, Santa's Helper. Abby's outgoing personality has helped encourage others to be involved in community service and outreach initiatives.
- Lyndon Wood, freshman women's soccer student-athlete logged the most community service hours for her team, participating in Help Our People Eat, Project Pumpkin, Read with the Deacs, Unique Deac, Hit-the Bricks, Skip Prosser Literacy and the MLK Read-In Day. We've been most impressed by Lyndon's eagerness to be actively involved in community engagement. More recently, Lyndon became the newest member of SAAC and will join our service subcommittee.

- Tony Bresky - Men's Tennis
- Led the men's tennis team to a 34-4 overall record and a 12-0 mark in ACC play, Won both the regular season ACC title and the ACC tournament title, Won the ITA Regional Coach of the Year for the fourth time in his career, Runner-up at the ITA Indoor Championships, Runner-up in the NCAA Championships
- Kim Lewellen - Women's Golf
- Led the women's golf team in their run to ACC Champions and taking both the ACC Individual Champion and runner-up titles, Runner-up in the NCAA Championships, Won two regular-season team titles
- Jen Hoover - Women's Basketball
- Led the team to the ACC Tournament Quarterfinals with wins over North Carolina and Virginia Tech, Achieved the second most conference wins in program history, Ended the year with a 3-1 record against Big Four opponents including going 2-0 against North Carolina, Tallied her 100th win at Wake Forest
- Jeff Wyshner - Women's Tennis
- Reached the NCAA Tournament Second Round, Two All-ACC selections in Eliza Omirou and Emma Davis, Finished the year with a 13-1 record at home, Ranked as high as No. 10 in the ITA rankings
- Bobby Muuss - Men's Soccer
- Wake Forest qualified for the NCAA College Cup with three NCAA Tournament wins, Deacs finished 16-5-2 overall and 6-2 in the ACC, plus a 12-1-2 record at Spry Stadium, Fifth straight year reaching at least the Sweet 16

- Made a school record fourth consecutive bowl appearance, Captured eighth Big 4 Championship with wins over in-state rivals North Carolina, Duke and NC State, a record 14 players named to the All-ACC team, The team broke or tied 100 NCAA, ACC and school records in finishing 15th in the nation in total offense while the defense gained the second-most turnovers in the last 11 seasons, Started the season 7-1 and achieved the program's first ever CFP top-20 ranking

- Qualified for the program's sixth NCAA College Cup, Defeated the defending national champions, Maryland, in second round of NCAA Tournament, Then defeated top-25 opponents Michigan and UC Santa Barbara to clinch College Cup berth, Finished the season with a 16-5-2 overall record, Ranked in the top 15 nationally both in goals scored and goals allowed
