MC Meredith and Eliza Omirou become the first women's tennis All-Americans since 2002
TEMPE, Ariz. – The Wake Forest women's tennis doubles pairing of MC Meredith and Eliza Omirou were named ITA All-Americans, as announced by the organization on Tuesday.
Meredith and Omirou, who were one of the most dominant pairing in the nation over their last three seasons together, become the first Demon Deacons All-Americans since the 2002 season.
The Deacs' No. 1 doubles pairing ended their careers with a 44-21 record in competition including a 14-11 mark in 2019-20. Despite the shortened season, their career wins still rank sixth in program history.
This season, Meredith and Omirou captured five ranked wins with four coming against top-25 doubles pairings. In the top position for Wake Forest, they were key in helping the Demon Deacons hoist the Blue-Gray National Tennis Classic in February.
In the semifinals against No. 31 Auburn, Meredith and Omirou knocked off No. 9 ranked Russo and Ovunc, 6-3. After advancing to the finals versus No. 5 Princeton, they would yet again face another top-25 doubles pair in No. 23 Joyce and Frayman. Meredith and Omirou helped set the tone with a 6-3 win in the top spot, helping take home the tournament title.
In the ITA doubles rankings, they ascended as high as No. 9 in the country while helping Wake Forest rank as high as No. 12 during the season.
