The Matchup
• Wake Forest opens the 2020 ACC slate by taking on North Carolina on Thursday night at 5:30 p.m. on ACC Network Extra.

Last Time Out
• The Demon Deacons opened the season with a non-conference loss against Duke, 4-3, on Sept. 10. Wake Forest battled back from a 2-1 deficit to take a 3-2 lead, but the Blue Devils tied it in the 88th minute and won the game in overtime.
• Both Sofia Rossi and Carrie McIntire tallied a goal and assist in the game, while Ryanne Brown also found the back of the net.
• Wake Forest started five freshmen: McIntire, Faith Adams, Sophie Faircloth, Madison Howard and Breckyn Monteith.

Quick Kicks
• Wake Forest and the ACC are set for a truncated fall season. The league will feature an eight-game conference schedule followed by the ACC Championship.
• The ACC is one of four conferences to play college soccer this fall, joined by the SEC, Big 12 and the Sun Belt.
• The NCAA is tentatively planning to hold the NCAA Soccer Championship in the spring. More details on that on page 2.
• Wake Forest's top returners include defender Hannah Betfort, a co-captain last season who led the squad with five assists; Ryanne Brown, who was tied for fourth on the team with nine points on three goals and three assists; and Giovanna DeMarco, who battled injuries last year but was an ACC All-Freshman Team pick in 2018.
•  Tony da Luz is in his 24th season at the helm of Wake Forest. His Deacs have reached the NCAA Tournament in 19 of his 23 years.

Scouting The Tar Heels
• North Carolina was picked as the preseason favorite to win the ACC by league head coaches.
• Last year, the Tar Heels finished with a loss in the national championship game to Stanford in penalty kicks.
• UNC features preseason All-ACC picks Maycee Bell, Emily Fox and Brianna Pinto. Bell was the ACC Freshman of the Year last year, Fox is a returning Hermann Trophy finalist and Pinto is a back-to-back first team All-ACC pick.

Series History
• North Carolina leads the all-time series by a 32-2-2 margin. Last year, the Tar Heels claimed a 4-0 victory, which was Wake Forest's only loss by more than one goal all season.

Looking Ahead
• Wake Forest travels to Duke on Sunday evening for a 5 p.m. kickoff on the ACC Network.
