BLACKSBURG, Va. – After months of preparation, the Wake Forest track and field team opened its 2021 indoor season at the Hokie Invitational on Friday evening. Three Demon Deacon runners earned runner-up finishes in their respective events.

"Tonight was very typical of a first meet," Director of Track & Field John Hayes said. "Most of these student-athletes have not competed in 11 months, so today was about shaking off the rust. My staff has done a tremendous job preparing them throughout this very difficult time. I anticipate seeing big improvements over the next few weeks as they settle down and get used to competing again."

Overall for the day, Wake Forest was led by sophomore Aleeya Hutchins who finished runner-up in the 600m run in a time of 1:31.53. The Pickering, Ontario native also competed in the 300m race. Additionally on the women's side, junior Elise Wright and graduate student Hannah Brookover finished second (9:31.90) and fourth (9:32.41) in the 3,000m run, respectively.

Meanwhile, senior Cydney Delley (60m Dash, 7.98) and rookie Addison Berry (60m Hurdles, 8.96) were Wake Forest's lone sprinters to compete on Friday evening.

The Wake Forest men's team was led by junior Kenton Bachmann's second place finish in the 600m run (1:20.46). The Knoxville, Tenn. native also participated in the 300m dash. The Demon Deacons other male runner to compete on Friday was junior Archie Wallis, who competed in the 1000m run and finished in 2:24.41.

In weight throw, junior Andrew White finished sixth with a mark of 17.87 meters. Sophomore Connor Mathis notched a mark of 14.72m. On the women's side, sophomore Katrina Andreassen recorded a personal-best throw, 15.87m.
