After the first day of play, three Deacs are inside the top 15.
Orlando, Fla. - The Wake Forest women's golf team sits in a tie for the third spot in a field of 17 after the first round of the UCF Challenge
In their first collegiate tournament since March 2020, the Deacs finished the first day of play in Florida with an 11-under score of 277 tied for third with fellow ACC school Miami. Of the four ACC schools in the event, Wake and Miami lead the charge, ahead of Virginia and NC State.
The Deacs were powered by sophomores Rachel Kuehn and Lauren Walsh, who both sit inside the top six. Kuehn is currently tied for second after shooting a career-low 66 on day one. Four birdies on her first nine charged her to the top early, and three more on her second nine secured her position. Walsh's five birdies on her scorecard helped keep her high on the board and balance two mid-round bogeys.
Freshman Mimi Rhodes made her debut as a Deacon and carded her first collegiate round of golf under par, with a two-under 70. Senior Siyun Liu birdied her final three holes of the day to sit in the middle of the field at T31.
The second round will begin at 8:00 ET Monday morning. Senior Emilia Migliaccio will be the first off the tee at 8:50, followed by Liu at 9:00, Rhodes at 9:10, Walsh at 9:20, and Kuehn will round out the Deacs at 9:30.
