Wake Forest Rises on Leaderboard at Golf Club of Collegiate Invitational

All five Demon Deacons were at par or below Saturday as Wake Forest‘s 12-under round helped them rise into the top four on the leaderboard.
ALPHARETTA, Ga. -- Wake Forest men's golf recorded the second-lowest score on the course in the second round of the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate Invitational on Saturday.
After 36 holes of play in Alpharetta, Ga., the Demon Deacons now sit in fourth and within striking distance heading into the final round. On Saturday, the Deacs finished with a round of 12-under-par with every member of the five-man lineup finishing with a round of par or better.
For the second consecutive round, senior Alex Fitzpatrick led the way for Wake Forest, ending his day with a 66 (-6). After two bogies on the first four holes, the Sheffield, England native settled in, circling the scorecard eight times throughout the remainder of the round.
He sits just two shots off the individual lead heading into Sunday's final round and is second in the field with 15 birdies on the week and leads the field in par-3 scoring average.
Fitzpatrick is in search of his second individual title of the year and his third of his career.
Sophomore Michael Brennan was the highest riser for the Demon Deacons on Saturday, carding a 68 (-4) to move up 21 spots on the individual leaderboard. The No. 24-ranked golfer in the nation according to GolfStat is now tied for 15th entering Sunday.
Freshman Marshall Meisel moved into the top 25 with a round of even par, his second round of par or better this week at the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate.
The Demon Deacons will tee off their final round of play on Sunday at 9:25 a.m., playing alongside Stanford and ETSU off hole one.
