
Deacs Complete Comeback Victory Over Pitt, 2-1

Shayla Smart picked up her sixth game-winning goal to deliver three crucial points toward a potential ACC tournament berth.
PITTSBURGH, PA. -- Shayla Smart delivered her sixth game-winning goal to give the Wake Forest women's soccer team the 2-1 come-from-behind victory over Pitt on Sunday afternoon at the Ambrose Urbanic Field.
In what was a crucial road match for the hopes to get into the ACC tournament, Wake Forest (14-3-0, 6-3-0 ACC) earned its fifth road win this season. The loss for the Panthers (10-7-0, 3-6-0 ACC) snapped their first ACC winning streak since 2015.
The Demon Deacons have 18 points and sit at T-4th with Notre Dame in the ACC standings. With one week left on the regular season, Wake Forest has an opportunity to clinch a spot in the ACC tournament for the first time since 2017.

Smart gave the Deacs the lead six minutes into the second half as Hulda Arnarsdottir sent a shot at the net and it bounced off the crossbar. Senior Shayla Smart followed up the shot and finished into an empty net. It was her sixth game-winning goal and 10th goal of the season.
Pitt struck first in the 14th minute when Sarah Schupanksy hit woodwork, but Amanda West knocked in the rebound for the lead.
Wake Forest went into the halftime break down 0-1 for the fourth time this season. With that said, Wake Forest dominated the shot counter 12-6 in the first 45 earning quality opportunities.
Out of the break, the Deacs earned two penalty kicks within the first six minutes of the second half. Hulda Arnarsdottir was fouled in the Pitt box, gaining a penalty kick and converting it for the Wake Forest equalizer.
About a minute later, Smart took the rebound ball from Arnarsdottir and earned the Deacs a 2-1 advantage.
Wake Forest remained on the attack throughout the second half, dominating the offensive front with nine second half shots compared to the Panther's eight.
Kaitlyn Parks collected seven saves on the night, including a crucial stop in the 86th minute. The Demon Deacon defense held the Panthers to 14 total shots.
