Deacs Begin Gamecock Scramble Strong

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Wake Forest men's tennis picked up six wins on the first day of the Gamecock Scramble at the Carolina Tennis Center. The Deacs earned four singles and two doubles wins on the day.
Senior Siddhant Banthia secured the highlight on day one with a ranked singles win. He battled No. 79 Matthis Ross of Texas A&M, defeating him in straight sets 6-2, 6-2. Filippo Moroni picked up another ranked win, securing a 6-7, 6-4, 6-1 mark over No. 91 Pierce Rollins.
Robert Macaig claimed a 6-3, 6-1 win over Luke Casper of Texas A&M and Matthew Thomson took down Stefan Storch of Texas A&M in a 6-7 (3-7), 6-1, 6-3 grinder.
In doubles, Banthia and Juan Lopez de Azcona earned a win over Stefan Storch and Raphael Perot from Texas A&M, 8-7 (7-3). In their first doubles match of the day, Moroni and Maciag defeated Pierce Rollins and Kenner Taylor, 8-5.
Day two of the round robin tournament on Saturday will begin with a round of doubles starting at 9 a.m.
Singles will follow at Carolina Tennis Center, and all teams will play one more round of doubles at the Carolina Indoor Tennis Center beginning at 1 p.m. begin tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. at the Carolina Tennis Center with one round of singles.
