
Demon Deacons Open ACC Tournament at No. 2 Duke in Quarterfinals

Wake Forest leads the ACC tournament series with Duke, 4-1-1.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- The Wake Forest women's soccer team travels to No. 2 Duke at Koskinen Stadium for a Sunday night match. The ACC quarterfinal match is set to kick off at 8 p.m. and slated to stream on ACC Network.
The Demon Deacons and Blue Devils have met 35 times, most recently in 2021 when then No. 8 Duke claimed a 2-0 victory. The Blue Devils lead the overall series 21-9-5. Duke comes into the match with a 13-2-1 overall record and a 7-2-1 ACC record. They are led by Michelle Cooper with 23 points and Tess Boade with 19 points.
LAST TIME OUT
Wake Forest women's soccer dropped a 2-1 decision in their final match of the 2021 season to Notre Dame at Alumni Stadium on Thursday.
The Deacs outshot the Irish 22-11 with 12 of those shots being on frame. Sofia Rossi provided Wake Forest's sole goal as Notre Dame's goalkeeper Ashley Naylor recorded a career high 11 saves.
Notre Dame struck first in the 20th minute of the match when Sammi Fischer found the net for the Fighting Irish. Fischer snuck her shot under Kaitlin Parks for her 11th goal of the season.
The Deacs nearly found an equalizer just two minutes on but Sophie Faircloth's effort was headed off the goal line. Nikayla Small and Zara Chavoshi both had shots that troubled Irish goalkeeper Naylor but the Deacs still searched for a breakthrough.
ACC TOURNAMENT HISTORY
Wake Forest has made 33 appearances in the prestigious ACC tournament, holding a 10-15-7 record. In the quarterfinals, the Demon Deacons have posted a 8-9-3 mark with the last appearance occurring in 2017.
The Deacs have taken on the Blue Devils six times since the first appearance in 1996 with the most recent meeting on October 28, 2012.
Unblemished record at the No. 6 seed with 3-0-1.
