The freshman has earned the weekly distinction after recording the most saves by a Demon Deacon goalkeeper over the last five seasons.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Wake Forest men's soccer freshman goalkeeper Trace Alphin has been named ACC Co-Defensive Player of the Week following an eight-save and clean sheet performance against Syracuse, the league office announced on Tuesday.
Alphin shares the weekly honor with Clemson's Oskar Agren.
The Raleigh, N.C., native's eight saves, all coming in the final 25 minutes of action in a 2-0 victory over the Orange, were the most by a Demon Deacon goalkeeper since Alec Ferrell in the 2016 ACC Men's Soccer Championship.
Additionally, it marked the first clean sheet against a conference opponent in Alphin's career.
So far this season, the freshman has appeared in 12 matches with 11 starts, collecting 27 saves with a 7-4-1 record.
Wake Forest enters the ACC Tournament as the No. 6 seed with the Demon Deacons hosting No. 11 Virginia in a first round matchup on Wednesday night at Spry Stadium. The match begins at 8 p.m. and will air nationally on the ACC Network.
