Demon Deacons Host ETSU for Annual School Day Game

Wake Forest will look to continue winning ways after a nine-day break.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Wake Forest women's basketball team plays host to East Tennessee State for the annual School Day at Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum on Monday.

The Demon Deacons' (8-1), who started the season 7-0 for just the fifth time in program history, is coming off its third win over a reigning conference champion last Saturday when the Demon Deacons defeated Troy behind another explosive performance from sophomore guard Jewel Spear. She netted her second 30-plus point performance of the season, finishing 11-of-19 from the field and 6-of-9 from behind the arc.

ETSU (1-8) captured its lone victory of the season over fellow Wake Forest opponent Cornell in mid-November. The 66-54 win Jaila Roberts finished with a game-high 24 points and finished 9-of-12 from the field. Roberts led the Buccaneers in scoring with 11.9 points per game this season while also leading her team in assists before being dismissed from the team earlier this week.

Tipoff for Monday's game against the Buccaneers is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. (ET) at LJVM Coliseum. The game can also be seen on ACC Network Extra as well as Watch ESPN/ESPN App.

NET RANKINGS

The Demon Deacons currently rank No. 56 in the latest NET rankings after initially opening up the season No. 57. The field of the NCAA Tournament for the first time in its history will expand to 68 teams this year.

CHARITY STRIPE

The Demon Deacons have gotten to the free throw line more than any other team in the ACC this season, averaging over 20 attempts. Their attempts rank 38th in the country and their 131 makes this season ranks 30th in the nation.

CRASHING THE GLASS

Getting on the glass has been a point of emphasis for head coach Jen Hoover since she arrived on campus. In the last seven seasons, Wake Forest has averaged better than 38 rebounds per game including averaging 40 or more during the 2013-14 season (40.5 rebounds per game) and the 2016-17 season (41.1 rebounds per game).

This season the Demon Deacons are off to another impressive start on the glass, totaling 390 rebounds while also having a Hoover era best 43.33 rebounds per game. The Deacs +11.2 rebounding margin ranks 19th in the nation.

  • The Demon Deacons (8-1) reached the 90-plus mark for the second time this season, making it the first time since the 2013-14 season that the Deacs have reached the mark multiple times in the same year.

    • Spear reached the 30-point mark for the second time this season as the Colony, Texas, native finished 11-of-19 from the field, including six three pointers. This marks the 14th-straight game Spear reached double figures.
