Deacs Host Pitt on Senior Night

Over their four seasons at Wake Forest, the senior class has accumulated over 7,000 minutes on the floor while having a pair of players on track to finish with over 1,000 points.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest women's basketball is back inside Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum on Thursday night, playing host to Pitt.

The Demon Deacons (9-8, 6-7 ACC) are coming off their second road win in the last three tries, defeating Georgia Tech, 61-52 on Sunday. Behind a 20-point performance from senior Gina Conti and a second consecutive double-double performance from senior Ivana Raca, the Deacs ended the Yellow Jackets seven-game winning streak and gave them just their third loss in conference play this season.

The Panthers (4-7, 2-6 ACC) have lost their last three contests including most recently a 71-67 loss against Syracuse at home on Sunday. Pitt has one of the most balanced scoring attacks in the ACC the season with seven players averaging 5.5 points or better per game.

Tipoff for Thursday's game against Pitt is scheduled for 6 p.m. (ET) in LJVM Coliseum. The game will air on ACC Network Extra.

SENIOR NIGHT

Prior to the Demon Deacons' tipoff on Thursday night against Pitt, Wake Forest will be honoring the 2021 senior class.

Maya Banks, Gina Conti and Ivana Raca have combined to play in 297 games over their four seasons in Winston-Salem while combining for over 7,000 minutes played.

Thursday night also marks the annual Play4Kay Pink Game. Fans can participate in the Pink Game with a few different opportunities:

Wake Forest at Georgia Tech (Feb. 7)

Result: W, 61-52

  • The Demon Deacons were led by their senior leaders in guard Gina Conti and forward Ivana Raca as the Deacs snapped the Yellow Jackets seven-game winning streak.
    • Conti ended the game with a team-best 20 points including going a perfect 8-for-8 at the free throw line. In total the Deacs went 15-of-16 from the charity stripe on Sunday, helping close out the game down the stretch.

  • Wake Forest fell on the road at Pittsburgh while senior Alex Sharp became the 27th member of the Demon Deacon program to cross over the 1,000-point barrier.
    • Sharp finished the game with a team-high 12 points and a team-high 11 rebounds for her 18th double-double of her career.

STANDOUT STAT

The senior class will finish their careers with over 300 games played and over 7,500 career minutes played. Additionally, the group will have a pair of 1,000-point scorers, a player rank in the top five in all-time assists, a player rank in the top 10 in career scoring and a player rank in the top 10 in career rebounding.
