WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Demon Deacons men's cross country team will compete on Friday morning at Florida State, while the Wake Forest indoor track and field teams will split its squad between the South Carolina Invitational (Feb. 5-6) and Brant Tolsma Invite at Liberty (Feb. 6) this weekend.
Coach John Hayes will send 10 distance runners to Tallahassee, Fla., six student-athletes to Columbia, S.C. and the remainder of its men's and women's teams to Lynchburg, Va.
Cross Country
Wake Forest's cross country team is slated to begin its spring season this Friday at the Florida State Winter XC Classic. With that, the Demon Deacons men's team will enter the meet ranked No. 2 in the southeast region and No. 19 in the national coaches' poll.
The Wake Forest men's cross-country program finished the fall ranked No. 23 following a third-place finish at the 2020 ACC Championships. That was the first time since 2001 that the Demon Deacons entered the national rankings and it was their best finish at the conference meet since 2001.
At that meet, four Wake Forest student-athletes earned All-ACC honors with top-20 finishes, led by Carter Coughlin crossing in fifth.
On Friday morning in Tallahassee, 10 Demon Deacons will be competing:
-
Joaquin Martinez De Pinillos
These student-athletes will be broken into two groups, with seven of them racing at 9 a.m. and three competing at 10 a.m.
