Demon Deacons Record Multiple First Place Finishes on Saturday

Wake Forest indoor track and field teams split its squad Saturday between the South Carolina Invite and the Brant Tolsma Invite at Liberty.

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Wake Forest had five student-athletes place first on Saturday as its indoor track and field team concluded competition Saturday at the South Carolina Invitational and Liberty's Brant Tolsma Invitational.
"We had a wide variety of performances today - some very good and some not so good," Director of Track & Field John Hayes. "Today gives us a good idea who will be prepared for ACC Championships in a few weeks."

The Demon Deacons recorded a clean sweep in the men's and women's 800 meter dash as junior Archie Wallis (1:51.61) and sophomore Aleeya Hutchins (2:11.37) each placed first.
In her indoor track and field collegiate debut, redshirt freshman Madeline Rehm finished first in the 5,000m run in 16:45.36 and her teammates Caroline Garrett (17:21.93), Meredith Helton (17:23.52) and Spencer Faircloth (17:40.76) crossed the finish line in third, fourth and fifth, respectively.
In the one mile run, junior Elise Wright (4:51.00) and freshman Hana Catsimanes (5:03.38) were the top two finishes on the women's side, while redshirt sophomore Brent Bailey led the Deacon men as he placed third in 4:16.21. Additionally, graduate student Hannah Brookover (9:39.71) and Wright (9:49.90) had the top two times in the 3,000m run.
Along the many first places on Saturday, the Demon Deacons had xxxxxx third place finishes beginning with junior Andrew White in the weight throw who recorded a mark of 18.42 meters. Wake Forest's other top field event competitors in Columbia, S.C. were sophomore Connor Mathis (15.41m) and redshirt junior Janese Lynch who placed fifth in the shot put.

Wake Forest had three field event competitors compete on Saturday in Columbia, S.C.
Junior Tony Jones, who placed first at the Hokie Invitational two weeks ago in the high jump, competed in the event on Saturday and placed fifth with a mark of 2.10 meters. Additionally, sophomore Robbie Grace (5.42m) and junior Elaina Roeder (3.23m) competed in the long jump and pole vault, respectively.
