
Second Round Surge Lifts Deacs After First Day of Valspar Collegiate

Junior Alex Fitzpatrick currently leads the field of 63 at an impressive nine under par.
Palm City, Fla. - The Wake Forest men's golf team sits in third place and just five strokes off the lead heading into the final round of the Valspar Collegiate.
After 36 holes of play today, junior Alex Fitzpatrick holds a two stroke lead over the rest of the field after shooting an impressive nine-under 133 on day one. Fitzpatrick also leads the field with 13 birdies over his two rounds. He started off hot, carding birdies on three of his first six holes of the day and finished just as well, with four birdies on his final nine holes of the day.
Freshman BJ Rogillio carded an eagle on his very first hole of the day for the Deacs. He continued through his first 18 with four more birdies, and recorded three more in his second round. Rogillio currently sits T33.
Freshman Michael Brennan and senior Parker Gillam also recorded eagles, with both of theirs coming in their second rounds on the same hole, the par five 13th. Rogillio's first round eagle also came on the 13th. Gillam is currently T24 and Brennan sits T47.
Sophomore Mark Power currently sits in 28th and senior Marco Steyn, competing as an individual, sits 61st.
The Deacs will tee off the final round beginning at 9:15 from the first hole with Brennan, followed by Rogillio at 9:24, Power at 9:33, Gillam at 9:42 and Fitzpatrick at 9:51. Steyn will tee off at 9:24 from the 10th hole.
