Winston-Salem, N.C. - The Wake Forest men's basketball program has signed incoming freshman Lucas Taylor to its 2021 recruiting class.
"Lucas is a great all-around player and one of the elite scorers in this recruiting class," head coach Steve Forbes said. "He has the ideal size and length to be an outstanding perimeter player in the ACC. Along with Carter Whitt, Lucas was one of the very first players I personally contacted when I got the job at Wake Forest nearly a year ago. Our staff is extremely excited that Lucas and his family have decided to be a part of our Demon Deacon family."
The Wake Forest, N.C. native is a 6-6, 185-pound guard. According to 247Sports, Taylor is a three-star prospect, the seventh-best prospect in North Carolina and the 38th ranked shooting guard in the country.
As a senior at Heritage this past season, Taylor averaged 27.9 points, eight rebounds, 2.9 assists, and 2.2 steals per game. His performance earned him All-State honors from the North Carolina Basketball Coaches Association (NCBCA).
Taylor was also named to the roster for the Carolinas Classic, an all-star game that features North Carolina's best graduating seniors against their counterparts from South Carolina. However, the game will not be played this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In his junior season in 2019-20, Taylor led Heritage in scoring, averaging 21.6 points per game. He scored 540 points in total, adding in averages of 5.2 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.6 steals per contest. Taylor's performance as a junior earned him a spot on the NCBCA All-District Team.
Taylor has accumulated plenty of accolades, including being named to the HighSchoolOT.com All-State Team and earning NBCA All-District, Conference Player of the Year and First-Team All-Conference honors. He was a two-time conference champion at Heritage and the state runner-up his freshman season.
