Demon Deacons Set for Top Competition at Calusa Cup

Winston-Salem, N.C. – The Wake Forest men's golf team returns to Florida for the Calusa Cup at Calusa Pines in Naples, hosted by the University of Iowa.
The field at the Calusa Cup includes four of the top eight teams in the country, Florida State (1), Oklahoma (3), Wake Forest (7), and Texas (8). The Florida Gators are also in the field, ranked No. 15.
The Deacs are coming off an eighth-place finish at the John Hayt Invitational in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, just a week ago. Wake Forest had two Demon Deacons inside the top 20, with senior Parker Gillam finishing T18 and freshman Michael Brennan finishing T20. Sophomore Mark Power finished one shot behind Brennan at T27. There was just a one-stroke difference between Gillam and Brennan also.
Wake Forest is currently ranked No. 7 in the latest GolfStat rankings and remains No. 2 in the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings, which were last updated on March 15 after the Deacs won back-to-back events and Michael Brennan won back-to-back individual titles.
Course Information
The tournament is being played at the par 72, 7,203-yard Calusa Pines in Naples, Florida. Calusa Pines features outstanding vistas generated by sweeping ridges that influence ten golf holes. The landforms are so soft and flowing that they blend in well enough to appear natural and unique. Combined with extensive native plant vegetation it is difficult to imagine the golf course was built, instead of simply laid out on this superb piece of land.
Format
54-hole stroke play where teams play three rounds over three days. Sunday and Monday's rounds will begin with tee times starting at 12:30 p.m. ET. The final round will begin Tuesday morning with tee times starting at 8:00 a.m.
Player to Watch
Parker Gillam
Gillam was the top finisher for Wake Forest last week at the John Hayt Invitational and has three top 20 finishes under his belt in six lineup appearances. He has played in the lineup for every event this spring and is fifth on the team with a stroke average of 72.28.
