Liv Stowell’s 90th-minute equalizer drew the Deacs level in a 1-1 draw.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- The Wake Forest women's soccer team provided fans with late drama, scoring a 90th-minute equalizer in a 1-1 draw with Boston College on Thursday at Spry Stadium.
Wake Forest (5-7-2, 3-4-1 ACC) fired 25 shots in the 110 minute extra time contest, but did not break through until their 19th shot of the game, when Liv Stowell found the back of the net off a corner kick from Sophie Faircloth in the 90th minute.
Boston College (3-9-1, 1-7-0 ACC) scored the go-ahead goal with just five minutes left in regular time, but the late effort from the Deacs pushed the game into a pair of overtime periods, where neither team could find a winner.
The Deacs outshot the Eagles 25-11 on the day, led by seven shots from Sofia Rossi. Carrie McIntire led Wake Forest with three shots on goal. Kaitlyn Parks earned seven saves in net for the Deacs while handling myriad dangerous Boston College crosses with ease.
How It Happened
"I'm super proud of them for coming back and getting the tying goal, because I thought we deserved at least a result from the game. We generated some good chances and we played well defensively. The midfield played well, and we put some players in a really good positions to score. We earned a lot of corners, so from an attacking standpoint, it was a really good, complete performance for us.
And defensively, against a really good front three, we did a pretty good job of keeping them wide and not being too dangerous. They had their chances and (Kaitlyn Parks) did a good job. I thought Ryanne did a really good job getting back on the weak side help on quite a few of the counters and crosses. She did a really good job of covering for us. Rossi was unbelievable on the day. In attack, we want to give her a touch on almost every possession, and I thought we were really conscious of that and did as much of that as we could."
