COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Wake Forest women's basketball freshman guard Jewel Spear was selected to the USA Basketball U19 World Cup Team, as announced by USA Basketball on Sunday.

The Colony, Texas native was one of just nine players chosen to the team after a three-day, 28-player trial at USA Basketball headquarters in Colorado Springs, Colo. She is one of just two active ACC players to be selected to the squad. The remaining three players in the 12-person team will be chosen ahead of the World Cup.

The team is set to compete in the 2021 FIBA U19 Women's Basketball World Cup in Debrecen, Hungary, running from Aug. 7-19.

This is no stranger to competing in USA Basketball competitions, taking part in the 2019 USA Basketball 3x3 U18 National Championship.

Spear earned ACC All-Freshman honors in her first season in Winston-Salem while also being named to the ACC All-Tournament Team.

All-ACC Freshman
Spear proved to be one of the toughest ACC perimeter players to stop regardless of class during her rookie campaign. She became the first Wake Forest freshman since Ariel Stephenson in 2015-16 to average better than double figures scoring for the season. Spear ranked third on the team with 10.9 points per game.

The Colony, Texas native is the first Wake Forest player to be named to the All-Freshman Team since Alex Sharp in 2017.

She had 12 double-figure scoring games regular season, all coming during the course of the 18-game ACC schedule. This included a pair of 20-plus point games against North Carolina (Dec. 20) and Clemson (Jan. 31).

Her 24-point performance against the Tigers then marked the most points by a freshman in the Jen Hoover era while her six three pointers made in the game tied her own freshman record set earlier that season against the Tar Heels.

She turned her game up another notch when it came to postseason play.

Clutch in the Tournament
Spear helped Wake Forest reach the ACC Tournament Quarterfinals for the second consecutive season with the help of a career performance in the second round against in-state rival, North Carolina. The performance helped lead her to ACC All-Tournament Team honors.

The freshman guard dropped a career-high 29 points in the victory over the Tar Heels, tying the highest mark by a Demon Deacon this season while also being the second most points by a player in the 2021 ACC Tournament.

In the victory, Spear tied an ACC Tournament record, becoming the sixth player in the tournament's history to knock down seven threes in a single contest. For the game, she finished 7-of-10 from distance while shooting 66.7 percent overall from the field.
