
Wake Forest Starts Strong in Regional Play

Two Demon Deacons sit inside the top five.
CLE ELUM, Wash. - The Wake Forest men's golf team leads the field after the first day of NCAA play at Regionals. The Deacs are at the top of the board alongside San Francisco at six under par.
Sophomore Mark Power got the Deacs started today with a birdie on his first hole and two more before the turn. Junior Alex Fitzpatrick, the leading Demon Deacon for the day, also birdied his first hole and followed with two more before he made the turn. He tallied two more on his second nine to finish four-under after the first 18 holes. He currently holds sole possession of the third spot on the individual leaderboard.
Senior Parker Gillam got off to a slower start on the front nine, with one birdie between two bogeys. The second nine holes went much better for the veteran, as six of the nine including five in a row from hole 13-17. He finished three under for the day and is currently tied for fourth.
Senior Eric Bae was the third-best finisher for the Deacs after the first day. After just one birdie on his first nine, at the par-five eighth hole, he recorded three on his second nine including the par-four 18th. He currently sits inside the top 30 at T26 and even par.
Wake Forest tee times for the second round will begin at 11:00 a.m. ET on Tuesday.
