The Deacs will host the Huskies at Truist Field in 2024 and travel to East Hartford, Conn. in 2028

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- The Wake Forest football program announced on Thursday that it has added a home-and-home series with FBS Independent UConn, with games in the 2024 and 2028 seasons. The Demon Deacons will host the Huskies in Winston-Salem on October 12, 2024 and will travel to East Hartford, Conn. on September 16, 2028 for the return trip.

"With so many Demon Deacon families and alumni in Connecticut, New England and the tri-state, we are excited to provide this home-and-home opportunity for Deacon Nation," director of athletics John Currie said. "AD David Benedict leads a first-class athletics program at UConn and the opportunity to bring the Huskies and Demon Deacons together is great for college football."

"Over the past couple of years the northeast has become a productive recruiting area for our staff at Wake Forest," head coach Dave Clawson said. "We love to play games in areas that we recruit to further showcase the Wake Forest brand."

The 2024 matchup will be Wake Forest's fourth-ever meeting with UConn, with the Deacs' holding a 2-1 advantage in the overall series.

The two schools last met on the gridiron in Wake Forest's 2007 season finale, when Wake Forest won the Meineke Car Care Bowl in Charlotte, N.C. over UConn, 24-10. Quarterback Riley Skinner completed 29 of 38 passes for 268 yards, while wideout Kenneth Moore was named the game's MVP after hauling in 11 catches for 112 yards.

UConn is the second FBS independent team scheduled in 2024, as Wake Forest will travel to Army on November 16 of that season. With this home-and-home series, Wake Forest is scheduled to play at least one FBS Independent team in nine consecutive seasons starting in 2021.

Winston-Salem Comes Together

Wake Forest University's marching band — The Spirit of the Old Gold & Black — and Winston-Salem State University's Red Sea of Sound will once again unite on Opening Night at Truist Field to launch the college football season.

As part of Wake Forest Athletics goal to provide the Best Fan Experience in North Carolina, the duo performed together for the first time ever in 2019 before a capacity Opening Night crowd as Wake Forest earned an exciting 38-35 victory over Utah State on the way to an 8-5 season culminating in an appearance in the New Era Pinstripe Bowl. The Red Sea of Sound marching band has received widespread recognition over the years for their excellence in performance, featuring thrilling, high energy drum majors, auxiliary cores and top-quality musical composition.
