Transfer Niyah Becker and 2021 signee Alyssa Andrews are set to bolster the Wake Forest women’s basketball roster for the upcoming season.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- The Wake Forest women's basketball team announced the additions of two players on Wednesday.

The Demon Deacons added Utah transfer forward Niyah Becker as well as signing guard Alyssa Andrews who becomes the fourth player in the 2021 signing class.

"Alyssa and Niyah are fantastic additions to our Wake Forest family," head coach Jen Hoover said. "Not only are they very talented individuals on the court, but they are all also very bright and mature young women who embody the values of Wake Forest University."

The two additions will join the rest of the 2021 signing class that signed in November. Both forward Malaya Cowles and guard Elise Williams gained valuable experience this season, enrolling in Wake Forest during the spring semester while also training with the Demon Deacons.

From Coach Hoover:

"We are super excited to have Alyssa join our program. She is our second top-100 player we're adding to this class. You don't find players like Alyssa often and we are fortunate to get a player like her so late in the recruiting process. She is a versatile player that is able to play a variety of positions on the floor from wing to forward, allowing us to space and stretch the floor. We know that she is a winner, and we are looking forward to her coming in day one ready to compete."

Niyah Becker | F | 6-2 | Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada/Utah

  • Finished fourth for the Utes in scoring and rebounding during her 2020-21 season
  • Suited up in all 21 games, making 10 starts for Utah as a junior
  • In total, she has played in all 82 of Utah's games over the past three seasons
  • Recorded double-digit points in 10 games during her career including a career-high five this past season
  • Has international playing experience for the Canadian National Team both during her time in college and in her youth career

From Coach Hoover:

"We knew that we wanted to add a veteran presence heading into this season and Niyah is a great fit for our Wake Forest family. She has length and athleticism that we believe will work extremely well in our system. She already has three years of playing experience in college, competing in the PAC-12. In addition to her college experience, Niyah also comes from a competitive international background with the Canadian National team. She has a great pedigree with her father, who also played basketball at Colorado. He has passed on a wealth of knowledge about the game and has helped make her into a well-rounded player."
