Wake Forest Makes First Cut to Top 15

The Demon Deacons must maintain field position inside the top eight tomorrow to advance.
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. - The Wake Forest men's golf team improved field position and made the top 15 cut for the final round of stroke play tomorrow. After Monday's round, only the top eight teams will advance to match play.
Wake Forest has improved their team score every day of competition so far, by at least two strokes. Sunday's improvement was due largely to senior Parker Gillam's tournament-low score of 64. The Cary, North Carolina native had four birdies on his first nine holes and capped the round off with two more on the second nine. He is the only player in the field of 148 to card a 64, while there have been two 65's and three 66's recorded over the past three days.
The bogey-free round was the first for the Deacs during NCAA play. Gillam's score of 64 is the second 64 recorded by a Deac this season, as freshman Michael Brennen shot a 64 in the second round of the Arizona Intercollegiate back in January. Gillam's standout day, along with two steady rounds of two over on day one and one under on day two, have him in contention for the NCAA individual champion title that will be awarded after Monday's final stroke play round. He currently sits in a tie for third and is four strokes off the individual leader.
Junior Alex Fitzpatrick is also inside the top 25 on the individual leaderboard. A steady score of 72 for his round puts him at three over par after an even-par 70 on day one and one-over 71 on day two. Senior Eric Bae had his best outing of the tournament so far on Sunday, shooting a two-over 72 after combining for eight over after the first two days. Wake Forest will be battling ACC foe North Carolina, Vanderbilt and Pepperdine for a spot inside the top eight on Monday.
A tie break between Georgia Tech and TCU will take place Monday morning at 10:30 ET for the 15th spot ahead of the final round of stroke play. Tee times and group pairings for the fourth round will be announced once they are made available.
