WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Hannah Maxwell, a breakout freshman for the Demon Deacons on the field hockey turf in 2021, joins host Kevin Smith on this week's edition of the Deac2Deac podcast.
Maxwell appeared in 17 games her freshman season, making seven starts, including starting all six games the Deacs played in the spring at forward. She was twice named ACC Offensive Player of the Week, first earning the honor on March 9 for her brace in the Deacs' 3-0 win over Boston College.
Her second honor came on March 30, where she earned Co-Offensive Player of the Week honors in the ACC for her golden goal in overtime to give Wake Forest a 3-2 overtime win at home vs. Virginia. It was the Forty Fort, Pa. native's first collegiate game-winning goal.
Maxwell finished her freshman campaign tied for second on the team with four goals. She compiled 18 shots (11 shots on goal), good for a 0.611 SOG percentage.
Prior to coming to Winston-Salem, Maxwell was a standout at Wyoming Seminary High School in Kingston, Pa., where she was a four-year letter winner in field hockey. The Blue Knights won Pennsylvania state titles three times while Maxwell was a part of their squad, and Maxwell was named to All-State teams four times during her prep career.
