The 2020-2021 NBA season has come to an end. In the Finals, Wake Forest men's basketball alumni faced off as Jeff Teague and the Milwaukee Bucks defeated Chris Paul and the Phoenix Suns in six games.
Teague played his role to a tee for the Bucks, helping the franchise earn its first NBA championship in 50 years. Head coach Mike Budenholzer relied on Teague as a defender in key minutes in the Finals, which paid dividends.
He became the first Demon Deacon to win an NBA title since Tim Duncan in 2014. In game six of the Eastern Conference Finals, Teague scored 11 points off the bench to help Milwaukee clinch the series against Atlanta, and advance to their first Finals since 1971.
Chris Paul put together an incredible playoff run en route to his first NBA Finals appearance. He put up 20.1 points and 8.8 assists per game over 20 games in the playoffs. One of his best performances came in game six of the Western Conference Finals, where he put up 41 points and eight assists with zero turnovers to send the Suns to the Finals for the first time since 1993.
Paul recorded three games with at least eight assists and zero turnovers in the 2021 playoffs. At age 36, he remained one of the most efficient players on the floor in every series he played in.
In game one of the Finals, Paul scored 32 points and knocked down four three-point shots to lead the Suns to the 118-105 victory. He notched at least 19 points and seven assists in five of the six games in the Finals.
After dishing out 11 assists in game five of the Finals, Paul officially passed Larry Bird on the all-time playoff assists list, moving him up to seventh. Entering the 2021-22 season, Paul will need just 76 more assists to pass Rajon Rondo and Tony Parker to move into the top five.
