Three different Demon Deacons collected goals in the 3-0 shutout.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Wake Forest (2-0-0) women's soccer capped off the opening weekend of the season with a 3-0 victory over High Point (0-1-1) on Sunday night at Spry Stadium..
Junior Shayla Smart collected her second goal of the young season in the third minute while senior Ryanne Brown scored the seventh goal of her career in the first half. In the second half, graduate transfer Jenna Menta earned her first goal as a Demon Deacon in the 84th minute.
Redshirt freshman Kaitlyn Parks, meanwhile, collected her second-straight shutout.
"We talked a lot about having a fast start and trying to get a lead early by putting pressure on teams," head coach Tony da Luz said after the win. "I thought we came out on fire and we had a couple more chances. We pushed and then we relaxed with the lead and got a little sloppy with the ball. We weren't as direct the rest of the first half getting another goal. We played a lot of players and I thought our second team brought us energy today. Some of those guys made statements on how badly they want to play and that is good. We brought the starters back in late to give them more time together. We had some close chances together at the end if we got organized."

How It Happened
- The Demon Deacons nearly took a first-minute lead when Smart found the back of the net, however, Wake Forest was called for offsides.
- Smart would ultimately get the Deacs ahead early, though, as she received a pass inside the 18-yard box before beating High Point goalkeeper Morgan Harrison in the third minute.
- The goal was Smart's second of the season and marks the second time in her career she's scored in back-to-back matches.
- High Point's first chance came in the 11th minute, but the shot went wide of the frame.
- The Panthers would register their first shot on goal in the 37th minute, but the chance was collected easily by redshirt freshman goalkeeper Kaitlyn Parks.
- Brown extended Wake Forest's lead to 2-0 in the 41st minute, heading home a corner kick from freshman Faith Adams.
- Freshman Carrie McIntire almost got the Deacs a third goal early in the second half, but she was called for offsides in the 57th minute.
- Brown was off-target with a penalty kick in the 64th minute.
- In the 85th minute, graduate Jenna Menta fired a shot in the box that ricocheted off a Panthers defender for her first goal.
- Wake Forest utilized the same Starting XI from Thursday's season-opening victory over UIC.
- The meeting was the third all-time between the Demon Deacons and Panthers and the first since a 2-1 victory for Wake Forest on Sept. 17, 2010.
- The Demon Deacons are now 3-0-0 all-time against the Panthers.
