No. 7 Virginia snapped Wake Forest’s eight-match win streak, falling 1-0

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Wake Forest's women's soccer team dropped its Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) opener to No. 7 Virginia, snapping an eight-match win streak on Friday night at Spry Stadium.

The Deacs recorded 10 shots in the match with seven of those coming in the second half. Wake Forest earned four-straight corners in the final two minutes of regulation to earn the equalizer but the Cavalier defense held strong.

Kaitlyn Parks recorded three saves, her second highest tally of the 2021 campaign.

Giovanna DeMarco saw her first minutes of action this season.

In the 19th minute, Virginia's Diana Ordonez broke through the Demon Deacon's back line that had not allowed a goal all season long and punched it in.

Tony Time with Coach da Luz
"That's the ACC for you. We can learn a lot from this and how we played throughout the whole match. I thought we challenged a great Virginia team. I thought the freshmen came out a little nervous in the first half. In the second half, I thought they regained their confidence. The team grew throughout the match. Great job to Virginia as they blocked us out. We had multiple opportunities but not a lot of clean looks. "
