
Wake Forest Travels to NC State for Third ACC Match of Campaign

The Demon Deacons and Wolfpack will meet on Friday night as Wake Forest looks for a third-straight victory on the season.
RALEIGH, N.C. -- Wake Forest men's soccer returns to Atlantic Coast Conference play on Friday night to take on NC State in Raleigh.
Kick-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. and the match will air live on ACC Network Extra.
The Matchup

Wake Forest and NC State will meet on Friday night for the third ACC match of the season for both teams.

Wake Forest is coming off a non-conference victory over George Mason, 1-0, on Monday night. The lone goal came courtesy of a strike from redshirt junior Jake Swallen.

NC State comes into the matchup following a 1-0 loss to ACC side Notre Dame last week.

This will be the 49th meeting all-time between the two schools. Wake Forest holds a 31-11-6 record over the Wolfpack.

The Demon Deacons are currently on a 19-match undefeated streak against NC State. The run dates back to the 2006 season and the Deacs are 15-4-0 in that span.

Wake Forest has also outscored the Wolfpack 48-12 during this stretch.

The last meeting between the two sides was during the spring portion of the 2020-21 season when the two played to a 0-0 draw at Spry Stadium.

The Wolfpack are coached by George Kiefer, who was an assistant coach at Connecticut when Wake Forest head coach Bobby Muuss was a player with the Huskies.

The only goal of the match came from redshirt junior Jake Swallen, his first of the season and the third of his career. Swallen ranks third on the team in points this season with five.

Sophomore Chase Oliver provided his second assist of the season on Swallen's goal. The Kennesaw, Ga., native ranks second on the squad in points with six, only behind senior Kyle Holcomb.

Freshman goalkeeper Trace Alphin made his third-straight start in the net for the Deacs, earning his first collegiate shutout.

Scouting the Wolfpack

The Wolfpack finished the 2020-21 season with a record of 3-8-4. Their three victories came against UAB, VCU and Syracuse.

The Wolfpack and the Demon Deacons met on three separate occasions during the split 2020-21 season. Wake Forest was victorious in two of the three matchups, while the third was a 0-0 draw.

NC State currently sits at 4-3-0. Two of the Wolfpack's three losses have come at the hands of ranked opposition, namely No. 2 Clemson and No. 20 Seton Hall.

In head coach Bobby Muuss's tenure, the Deacs are 14-1-2 against Big Four opponents. Wake Forest has never lost to Duke or NC State under Muuss. The only loss came against North Carolina in the quarterfinals of the 2020 NCAA Men's Soccer Championship.
