Deacs Notch First ACC Win at Boston College

9/23/2021 10:05:00 PM | Women's Soccer

Wake Forest earns its ninth shutout victory of the year in a 1-0 result at Boston College.

NEWTON, Mass. -- Wake Forest picked up its ninth shutout win Thursday night, topping the Boston College Eagles 1-0 for its first Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) victory at Newton Soccer Field.

Graduate forward Hulda Arnarsdottir notched the game-winner with a finish after a deflection in the keeper's box early in the first half. It was Arnarsdottir's first goal in the Old Gold and Black since October 31, 2019 vs Notre Dame.

The Demon Deacons and Eagles went back-and-forth offensively throughout the night, tying the shot counter at 14 apiece with the Eagles putting seven on frame compared to the Deacs' four.

The shutout was the sixth for goalkeeper Kaitlyn Parks and the ninth clean sheet for the Deacs this season, which leads the country.

The Deacs defeated Boston College at home for the first time since 2010 and collected its first victory over the Eagles since 2017. The last two meetings have ended in a tie as Wake Forest knotted up the all-time series with the Eagles at 8-8-2.

The Deacs saw a pair of close chances in the second half as shots from Shayla Smart and Ryanne Brown nearly hit the back of the net. Six different Deacs attempted two shots, while Sophie Faircloth and Arnarsdottir picked up the final two shots on goal.

Tony Time with Coach da Luz
"I'm extremely proud of our team tonight. It was a gutsy performance to earn the valuable three ACC points on the road. Our players were fully committed mentally and physically to the win. Another shutout is something we can be proud of and continue to build on."
