Deacs Enter Final Round of Old Town Club Collegiate Invitational with Eight-Stroke Lead

Alex Fitzpatrick and Michael Brennan enter Tuesday’s third round with a share of the individual lead.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- The No. 17 Wake Forest men's golf team had a strong start to its lone home tournament of the fall season, the third annual Old Town Club Collegiate Invitational, on Monday.
The Deacs sport two teams inside of the top four on the leaderboard including the overall leaders, who are 28-under-par through 36 holes. The Demon Deacons take an eight-stroke lead into the final round.
At the top of that lineup, Wake Forest was led by senior Alex Fitzpatrick and sophomore Michael Brennan. Through two rounds of play, Fitzpatrick and Brennan are both 9-under-par and tied for the individual lead.
Brennan had a hot start to Monday with a tournament-record 62 (-8) in round one. He was 5-under-par at the turn capped off by a 150-yd chip-in for eagle on hole nine.
Both Fitzpatrick and Brennan are in search of their first individual tournament title this season. For Fitzpatrick, it would be his first win since his sophomore season and second overall. For Brennan, it would be his third individual title after having two as a freshman a season ago.
Just one stroke behind them on the other Demon Deacon team is freshman Marshall Meisel. He sits alone in fourth place after turning in a 65 (-5) and 67 (-3), respectively. Overall, Meisel's team is 18-under-par and in fourth place after two rounds of play.
In total, seven Demon Deacons sit inside of the top-15 on the individual leaderboard heading into Wednesday. This includes all three freshmen as Scotty Kennon (-4) and Collin Adams (-4) join Meisel near the top of the leaderboard.
The two Demon Deacon teams will tee off No. 1 on Wednesday between 8:05 a.m. and 9:35 a.m. tomorrow morning from Old Town Club.
