Wake Forest men’s basketball will host Winston-Salem State in the Winston-Salem Tipoff Classic on Friday, Nov. 5.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- With the second year of the Steve Forbes era just around the corner, Wake Forest Athletics is proud to announce the Winston-Salem Tipoff Classic, a marquee Winston-Salem and Forsyth County matchup with Winston-Salem State University to open the 2021-22 season.

The Demon Deacons and Rams will face off for the first time since Nov. 24, 2009, when the defending CIAA champions come to Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum on November 5 for an exhibition game at 7 p.m.

"This is a special matchup for both institutions and the entire Winston-Salem community," Director of Athletics John Currie said. "I have tremendous respect for Winston-Salem State University Chancellor Elwood L. Robinson and AD Etienne Thomas and we are excited to bring these two historic basketball programs and our community together again."

"I have great respect for Coach Cleo Hill, Jr. and the tremendous job he has done," head coach Steve Forbes said. "Winston-Salem State has a championship pedigree with their success in recent years and I am excited to see the community come together inside Joel Coliseum to tip off the 2021-22 season with this great exhibition matchup."

Wake Forest and Winston-Salem State have only played each other during the regular season four times in the history of both programs. The matchups took place consecutively from 2006-10.
