Deacs and Mountaineers square off in Boone, NC for the fourth meeting in the all-time series.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Wake Forest's women's soccer team will look to continue its hot start on Sunday night when the Demon Deacons travel to Appalachian State at Appalachian Soccer Stadium.
Kick-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. and the match will air on ESPN+.
LAST TIME OUT
Wake Forest picked up its fifth consecutive shutout victory, besting Loyola-Maryland at home, 3-0.
Senior Shayla Smart bagged the first hat-trick of her collegiate campaign. She now has six goals on the season, tying her for the second most in the country.
Smart started the scoring in the 10th minute as she rounded the Loyola goalkeeper and finished into an empty net. Nikayla Small recorded her second assist of the season.
She collected the brace a minute later off senior Hulda Arnarsdottir's dish which Smart finished with the curling shot into the right-hand corner of the net.
In the 57th minute, Small provided another perfect ball for Smart. The Apopka, Fla. native decisively punched in the hat trick into the bottom corner. Smart's hat-trick is the first for the Demon Deacons since Maddie Huster scored three against FIU in 2016.
HOT START
The Deacs have outscored their opponents, 14-0 to begin their non-conference schedule.
Wake Forest has yet to concede a goal this season as they hold a five-game shutout streak, during which they have remained unbeaten. Dating back to last season, Wake Forest has gone 475 minutes without conceding a goal. It is the first time since 2016, Wake Forest has shutout five-straight opponents.
SMART MAKES HISTORY
Shayla Smart tallied the game-winning score as the Demon Deacons earned their 300th program win with a 1-0 shutout victory over UIC in the home opener at Spry Stadium.
NEW YEAR, NEW TEAM
The Deacs return 20 letterwinners from last year's squad, highlighted by Ryanne Brown, Giovanna DeMarco, Sofia Rossi and ACC All-Freshman Team member Sophie Faircloth.
Wake Forest welcomes a signing class of 16 that was rated No. 37 in the country and No. 7 in the ACC by TopDrawerSoccer.com. The Deacs added 15 true freshmen and one graduate transfer - Jenna Menta from Georgetown - that look to make an immediate impact this season.
SCOUTING THE MOUNTAINEERS
App State was picked to finish eighth in the Sun Belt Conference.
Sunday's match will be the fourth meeting between the two schools. App State sits at 2-1-1 after picking up wins over UNC Asheville and USC Upstate.
