Demon Deacons Looking for Fifth-Straight Win at Syracuse

1/28/2022 1:09:00 PM | Men's Basketball

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest men's basketball team is on the road for their second regular-season matchup with Syracuse on Saturday evening in New York state.

The Demon Deacons (17-4, 7-3) come into Saturday's contest winners of six of their past seven games and in sole possession of fourth place in the ACC standings. A win over the Orange would provide Wake Forest with its first five-game ACC win streak since Chris Paul led the Deacs on a six-game winning streak in 2005.

After scoring 23 points and picking up seven rebounds and seven assists against Boston College, Alondes Williams remains the only player in the country averaging 20.0 points (20.4), 5.0 rebounds (6.8) and 5.0 assists (5.1). The Milwaukee native posted a 25-point, 12-rebound double-double in the Deacs' previous matchup with Syracuse.

As the current ACC leader in both points per game and assists per game, Williams is on track to be the first player in the ACC to lead both categories for a season since the league began tracking assists in 1973.

Jake LaRavia enters Saturday's action having tallied double-doubles in each of his past two outings, with 31 points and 10 rebounds against North Carolina and 11 points and 10 rebounds against Boston College.

The reigning ACC Player of the Week is averaging 16.2 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 3.8 assists in conference play and came one rebound shy of a double-double in his first game against Syracuse (12 points, nine boards).

Together, the Williams/LaRavia duo is averaging a combined 35.8 points per game this season and is the top scoring tandem in the ACC.

Through 10 ACC games, the Demon Deacons lead the conference in both team (49.8) and opponent field goal percentage (37.8). Wake Forest has held seven of its first ten ACC opponents to below 40 percent shooting.

The Orange (9-11, 3-6) are coming off a 64-53 road loss at Pittsburgh and are currently tied for ninth in the ACC standings. All five starters for Jim Boeheim average double-digit scoring and Syracuse sits atop the ACC in offensive rebounds per game during conference play with an average of 12.89.

Tipoff inside the Carrier Dome is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET and the game will air live on ACC Network.
