
Deacs Look to Finish Week Strong at Florida State

Wake Forest is looking to build off the victory Thursday night at Miami against the Seminoles on Sunday afternoon.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Wake Forest women's basketball team continues its Florida road trip with a visit to Tallahassee to play Florida State on Sunday afternoon.
The Demon Deacons (12-3, 2-2 ACC) will look to sweep the week after a victory at Miami on Thursday night. The victory marked the eighth time this season that the Demon Deacons have limited their opponent to 50 points or less in a game. Additionally, all but four opponents this season have shot 40 percent or better in a game and just two have shot 35 percent or better from behind the arc.
The Seminoles (6-6, 0-2 ACC) are coming off a pause that has had them out since playing Wake Forest on Dec. 30. Last game, Florida State was without its leading scorer in Morgan Jones. The senior from Jonesboro, Ga. averages 15.2 points per game and she is the only Seminole player to be in double figures this season.
Tipoff for Sunday night's game against the Seminoles is scheduled for Noon (ET) at Donald L. Tucker Civic Center. The game can also be seen on ACC Network.

HOLDING DOWN OPPONENTS
The Demon Deacons have held all but four opponents to under 40 percent shooting from the field and all but two under 35 percent shooting from behind the arc.
The Deacs rank nationally in multiple defensive categories including No. 16 in three-point field goal defense, allowing opponents to shoot just 23.9 percent from range. This also ranks first among all ACC schools through this point in the season.
Additionally, the Deacs scoring defense is currently 33rd in the country, allowing just 55.3 points per game as just seven of the 16 Demon Deacon opponents have scored more than 50 points this season.

The Deacs relied on that strong defensive effort down to the final seconds. The Hurricanes had the ball on the final possession of the game. The Wake Forest defense held one final time to secure the victory.

Sophomore guard Jewel Spear finished the night with a game-high 15 points while also adding a pair of rebounds and a block shot to her statline. Junior forward Olivia Summiel tallied a team-high nine rebounds.

The Demon Deacons, who were down by as much as 13 in the fourth quarter, used an 11-0 to get within two points of the Seminoles with less than a minute to play. Over the 11-0 run, Wake Forest held Florida State scoreless for a period of 5:55. The Deacs went on to win in overtime.

Wake Forest goes into the contest on Sunday as one of just 16 Power-5 programs and just one of 21 Division-I programs overall to have 12 or more wins this season. The Demon Deacons are one of just four ACC programs to have 12 or more wins this season (Louisville, NC State and North Carolina).
