Wake Forest became one of only three teams to hold the Tar Heels to one goal or less this season.
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Despite holding No. 2 North Carolina to a season-low 10 shot attempts, the Wake Forest women's soccer team (9-4-2, 3-4 ACC) fell to the Tar Heels (12-3, 5-2 ACC), 1-0, Friday night at Dorrance Field.
The two sides battled to a scoreless tie over the first 48 minutes of action, before North Carolina broke the even ledger on a penalty kick goal. Wake Forest applied pressure offensively down the stretch but was unable to find the equalizer.
Friday marked the first time North Carolina had been held scoreless in the first half of any ACC match this season. Additionally, Wake Forest joined No. 1 UCLA, Syracuse and Virginia Tech as the only teams to hold North Carolina to one goal or less this season.
Wake Forest held North Carolina to a season-low one corner kick for the match, including zero in the second half. Of note, the Deacs attempted six shots in the second half compared to only four for the Tar Heels.
Goalkeeper Kaitlyn Parks tallied four saves in goal for the Demon Deacons.
Wake Forest will look to bounce back when the Demon Deacons travel to face Virginia on Oct. 20. Three days later, the Deacs will return to Spry Stadium for the regular season home finale against Notre Dame.

"We achieved many of our tactical objectives tonight. We competed extremely well and played bravely with, and without, the ball. Kaitlyn Parks made three fantastic saves to keep us in it, and we used her performance to motivate us and gain a good amount of control in the second half. We passed the ball well, we fought and we pressed. It was a solid performance for 86 minutes, but we need to get 90 minutes of focus in these big games. We have a good young team that's still making progress. I like where we are heading down the stretch." - head coach Tony da Luz
