Wake Forest to Host No. 5 Notre Dame in Final Regular Season Home Contest

The Demon Deacons will face their fourth top-10 opponent of the season.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Wake Forest women's soccer team will host its final regular season home contest Sunday evening when the Demon Deacons welcome No. 5 Notre Dame to Spry Stadium.
 
Kickoff is slated for 5 p.m., and the match will be streamed on ACC Network Extra.

New to the ticketing menu this year are five and 10 game FLEX options, giving fans maximum flexibility when choosing which home games to attend. FLEX season ticket members will simply open their digital FLEX account, and add or remove games as they decide which dates they are available to attend. Members may even use multiple admissions for a single game to bring a friend, family member or guest with them. If more FLEX tickets are needed, additional admissions may be purchased through the Wake Forest Ticket Office. FLEX admissions are able to be used for redemption at both men's and women's soccer games.

The Matchup
  • Coming off a 1-0 loss at No. 8 Virginia, Wake Forest will return home to face the fifth-ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
  • Notre Dame is coming off five straight victories and currently sits joint-top of the ACC with 18 points.
  • The Demon Deacons are 6-1-1 (3-1-0 ACC) at home this season, with back-to-back 2-0 victories over Miami and Syracuse. On the other side, Notre Dame is 5-1 (3-1 ACC) on the road. The Irish are playing their third-consecutive road match.
  • Wake Forest is currently 35th in the RPI rankings, while Notre Dame is fourth. This is the third game in a row the Deacs will be facing a top-10 RPI team.

Last Time Out
  • Despite a stellar defensive effort, Wake Forest fell to No. 8 Virginia, 1-0, Thursday night at Klöckner Stadium.
  • Wake Forest held Virginia to only seven shots and two corner kicks, both of which are the second-fewest the Cavaliers have attempted in a match this season.
  • The two teams were engaged in a defensive battle in the first half as the opening 45 minutes featured only three shots and one corner.
  • After entering the halftime break knotted at 0-0, Virginia broke the scoreless tie three minutes into the second frame on a goal from Maggie Cagle. Carly Wilson nearly tied up the match just 20 seconds later when she fired a shot toward the center of the goal but Virginia goalkeeper Emma Dawson corralled the shot attempt.
  • The Demon Deacons continued to pressure Virginia's backline throughout the second half, but the Cavaliers refused to relinquish the equalizer and held on for the 1-0 victory.
  • For the match, redshirt junior Kaitlyn Parks registered five saves in goal for the Deacs.
 
Scouting the Irish
  • Notre Dame is currently ranked No. 5 in the United Soccer Coaches Poll.
  • The Fighting Irish are 13-2-0 this season with its two losses coming to Pitt at home and Clemson on the road.
  • Notre Dame has not conceded a goal in the last five matches, while outscoring its opponents 13-0 during that span.
  • The Fighting Irish have recorded ten clean-sheets this season and are fourth in the nation (first in the ACC) with a 0.667 shutout percentage. Mackenzie Wood is tied with Wake Forest goalkeeper, Kaitlyn Parks, for the ACC-lead with eight shutouts.
  • Offensively, Notre Dame is led by Olivia Windgate, who has scored 10 goals this season, while accumulating 25 points. She is tied for the ACC lead in goals and total points.
 
Series History
  • Wake Forest currently trails Notre Dame in the all-time series, 2-8-1, dating back to 1998. 
  • Last season, the Demon Deacons dropped a 2-1 contest to the Fighting Irish on the road in the last regular season match of the season.
  • In 2020, Kaitlyn Parks earned a shutout victory in the Deacs' 1-0 win over the Irish. Parks racked up a career-high nine saves in the process. Current Demon Deacon, Kim Reese, picked up an assist on the lone goal in the match.
  • The Demon Deacons are looking to pick up the first home win over Notre Dame in the program's history (0-3-0).

Wake Forest will hit the road for its final match of the regular season as it takes on Boston College on Oct. 27.
