This season, the Demon Deacons reached the NCAA Championships for the 22nd time in program history, while winning nine or more matches for the fourth time in the past six seasons.

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The 2022 campaign came to an end for the Wake Forest women's soccer team Saturday night as the Demon Deacons (9-7-3) fell to third-seeded and 13th-ranked South Carolina (14-3-5), 2-0, at Eugene E. Stone III Stadium in the first round of the 2022 NCAA Division I Championships.

On Nov. 7, the Deacs were selected to the 2022 NCAA Division I Championships for the 22nd time in program history. Of note, the Deacs have reached the national tournament in all but seven seasons since the program's inaugural season in 1994.

This year, Wake Forest posted a +11 goal differential, outscoring its opponents 27-16.

During the regular season, the Demon Deacons earned two RPI top-30 victories including a win over No. 14 Clemson. Additionally, the Deacs tallied nine shutouts while accumulating a .778 goals against average.

Wake Forest also ranked top-50 nationally in the regular season in each category despite ranking 17th in Strength of Schedule and No. 1 in Conference RPI Value.

Although Wake Forest was held scoreless Saturday against South Carolina, the Demon Deacons had several near scoring opportunities. The Deacs best shot-attempt came in the 37th minute when ACC All-Freshman selection Caiya Hanks broke free down the pitch and fired a strike that ricocheted off the woodwork.

Additionally, sophomore Emily Morris had another near scoring opportunity in the 66th minute that also deflected off the crossbar.

For the contest, Wake Forest tallied more corners than the Gamecocks (3-2), while only registering one less shot (10-9).

With nine wins this season, the Demon Deacons have now won nine or more matches in four of the past six seasons. This year, head coach Tony da Luz earned his 99th-career ACC victory in a 2-0 win over Miami on Oct, 9. da Luz's 99 wins ranks fifth in league history.
