WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Wake Forest men's basketball team will continue their home non-conference slate with a matchup with the Utah Valley Wolverines on Tuesday night. This will be the first meeting between the two schools, as well as Wake Forest's first contest against a WAC school since 1977 (Seattle).
The Demon Deacons (2-0, 0-0) are coming off of a 81-71 home victory over Georgia (1-1, 0-0) on Friday.
The backcourt of Daivien Williamson and Tyree Appleby led the way with 24 and 22 points, respectively. Williamson poured in 15 points in the first half, his highest total in a half since scoring 15 in the second half against NC State last season on March 2, 2022. The team captain also had four rebounds and four assists. Appleby added six rebounds and six assists to his line.
Davion Bradford controlled the paint, finishing on a perfect 5-of-5 clip from the field to tally 11 points while grabbing four rebounds and making two blocks.
Cameron Hildreth again acted as a spark plug, nearly reaching a double-double. The sophomore guard ended with eight points and 11 rebounds.
Andrew Carr plugged in nine points. As a team, Wake Forest shot over 50% from the field and scored 34 points in the paint.
Utah Valley (2-1, 0-0) is led by fourth-year head coach Mark Madsen. The two-time NBA
champion led his team to a 20-win season in 2021-22, finishing with a 20-12 overall record. The Wolverines finished their home slate with an impressive 11-2 record. Madsen has led the Wolverines to a 19-6 record at home over the past two seasons.
The Wolverines are coming off of a 73-69 win over Northern Arizona at home. The team was led by senior guard Trey Woodbury, who finished the game with 22 points and six assists. Woodbury led Utah Valley in scoring in 2020-21 with 15.6 points per game before missing almost all of last season. The Las Vegas native is currently leading the way again with 14.3 points per game over the first three contests.
Tuesday night's tipoff inside LJVM is scheduled for 7:00 p.m and the game will stream live on ACC Network Extra.
