Demon Deacons Primed for Jersey Mike’s Jamaica Classic

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Wake Forest men's basketball team will take on La Salle in game one of the Jersey Mike's Jamaica Classic on Friday afternoon before taking on either Georgetown or Loyola Marymount on Sunday. Both games will air live on CBS Sports Network. 
 
The Demon Deacons (3-0, 0-0) are coming off a 68-65 home overtime victory over Utah Valley on Tuesday. Tyree Appleby knocked down the go-ahead three with 0.4 left on the clock to down the Wolverines. The contest featured 15 lead changes and 10 tied scores.
 
Appleby led all players with 23 points, going 12-of-14 from the free- throw line. The guard also added seven rebounds and six assists. Andrew Carr produced a monster double-double of 15 points and 14 rebounds. His total mark in boards, five of which were scooped on the offensive glass, set a new career high. Daivien Williamson rounded out the double-digit scoring with 10 points.
 
La Salle (2-1, 0-0) is led by first-year head coach Fran Dunphy. He is a member of the Philadelphia Big 5, La Salle Athletics, Penn Athletics, and Philadelphia Sports Writers Halls of Fame, has amassed nearly 600 victories over his 30 years as head coach at Penn (1989-06) and Temple (2006-19). He is the only coach to oversee multiple Big 5 men's programs, and his teams have competed in 17 NCAA Tournaments.
 
The Explorers are led by sophomore guard Khalil Brantley. The Brooklyn, N.Y. native is averaging 17.0 points per game over the first three games, including a 22-point performance against Wagner. His team is coming off a 72-60 home victory over Queens University.
 
Georgetown (2-1, 0-0), led by former NBA star Patrick Ewing, is heading into Jamaica following a 63-75 loss to Northwestern. Primo Spears, a sophomore guard out of Connecticut, leads the Hoyas in scoring with 23.7 points per game.
 
Stan Johnson is in his third year at the helm of Loyola Marymount (2-2, 0-0). The Lions were defeated, 64-79, by UC Irvine in their last game before Jamaica. Graduate guard Cam Shelton leads the team with 17.0 points per game in addition to 5.3 rebounds per game.
 
Friday afternoon's tipoff inside Montego Bay is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. ET and the game will air live on CBS Sports Network.
 
Sunday's game will also air on CBS Sports Network. The time is to be determined.
