WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Wake Forest men's basketball team hits the road this week for the team's first true road test of the year when they play at Wisconsin Tuesday night (Nov. 29) against the Badgers for the 2022 ACC/BIG Ten Challenge.
The Demon Deacons (6-1) are coming off a 97-70 win against Hampton on Saturday afternoon. The Deacs stand at a perfect 5-0 mark in Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum this season for just the second time since 2013-14.
Cameron Hildreth continued his exceptional start to the 2022-23 season on Saturday (Nov. 26), becoming the third all-time Wake Forest men's basketball individual to notch a triple-double, finishing with 14 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists. Four Demon Deacons finished in double-figure scoring on Saturday for the fourth time this year. Wake Forest has had at least three players finish in double figures in every game this season.
Hildreth's feat was the first by an ACC player this season and Wake Forest is the first ACC school to have a triple-double recorded in back-to-back seasons since Miami's Bruce Brown recorded one in both the 2016-17 and 2017-18 seasons. Hildreth is also just one of two ACC players to record 10 assists in a game this season, joining Virginia's Reece Beekman.
As a unit, Wake Forest displayed collective efficiency in its scoring. The Deacs shot over 56 percent from the field and 51 percent from distance. Defensively, Wake Forest held Hampton to a 38.5 field goal percentage. The Pirates' 24 points in the first half was the second-lowest total Wake Forest has allowed in a half this season.
Wisconsin (5-1), led by eighth year head coach Greg Gard, is coming off a 64-59 win over USC last Friday night in the third-place game of the Battle for Atlantis in Paradise Island, Bahamas. The Badgers have had the same starting lineup every game this season but only have one player, Tyler Wahl, averaging double figures in scoring (14.0 points per game). The 6-9 senior forward also leads the team in rebounding, averaging 7.7 boards a game.
Wisconsin is 2-0 at home this season, but the Deacs are 3-0 against the Badgers all-time, with their last win coming exactly 17 years to the day prior to Tuesday's match up.
Tuesday night's tipoff inside the Kohl Center is scheduled for 9:00 p.m. ET. The game will air live on ESPNU.
