Four Demon Deacons Earn NFHCA All-Region Honors

Sky Caron and Meike Lanckohr both earned First Team All-South Region honors, while Grace Delmotte and Nat Friedman landed on the second team.

BROCKPORT, N.Y. – Sky Caron, Meike Lanckohr, Grace Delmotte and Nat Friedman continue to reel in postseason honors for their performances and contributions during the 2022 field hockey season as the group garnered National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division I All-Region accolades.

Caron and Lanckohr led the group as the duo earned First Team All-South Region honors, while Delmotte and Friedman landed on the second team. 

This marked the third-straight season Lanckohr and Friedman both earned the prestigious honor. For Caron, this is the second All-Region accolade of her career while Delmotte was recognized by the coaches association for the first time of her collegiate career. 

Caron (First Team), Lanckohr (First Team), Delmotte (Second Team) and Friedman (Second Team) were also selected to All-ACC teams.  

This group was instrumental in helping Wake Forest make its 18th appearance in the NCAA Tournament this past year. The Demon Deacons finished the season with 15 wins, the most since 2008, and defeated three top-10 teams. 

The NFHCA Division I All-Region team announcement is the first in a list of postseason awards to come from the NFHCA over the next several weeks. Next to be announced are the NFHCA Regional Players of the Year on Wednesday, Nov. 30, they will be followed by the NFHCA All-American teams on Tuesday, Dec. 13 and the NFHCA National Player of the Year on Thursday, Dec.15.

The All-Region Demon Deacons

Sky Caron (First Team)

  • Named First Team All-ACC and ACC All-Tournament Team

  • Named team captain

  • Appeared and started in all 21 matches

  • Finished tied for second on squad with a career-high 23 points, scoring a career-high nine goals (second on team) and dishing out a career-high five assists (tied for second on team)

  • Tallied a season-high three points with a goal and assist against Cal (Sept. 11), Richmond (Sept. 16) and Davidson (Oct. 3)

  • Found back of the net in three-straight matches against Davidson (Oct. 3), Louisville (Oct. 7) and VCU (Oct. 9)

  • Also scored against Lafayette (Sept. 2), Cal (Sept. 11), Richmond (Sept. 16), Boston College (Oct. 21), Syracuse (Oct. 28) and Saint Joseph's (Nov. 11)

  • Also credited with an assist against Iowa (Aug. 26) and Brown (Oct. 23)...Made game-winning goals four times (Richmond, Louisville, VCU and Syracuse), the most on the team

  • Made three-of-four penalty stroke attempts.

Meike Lanckohr (First Team)

  • Named First Team All-ACC and ACC All-Tournament Team

  • Appeared and started in 19 matches

  • Posted career highs in points (33), goals (10), assists (13), shots (52), shots on goals (35)

  • Led team in points and goals, while tying for team-high in assists

  • Finished regular season leading the ACC in assists, while ranking fourth in points and sixth in goals

  • Earned second conference player of the week nod of her career after leading the team in a perfect 2-0 weekend with a team-high 12 points, netting a team-high five goals and two assists

  • Registered first hat trick of career while dishing out assists against UC Davis (Sept. 9)

  • Also scored multiple goals against Cal (Sept. 11)

  • Dished out two assists in three matches

  • Credited with an assist in 10 different matches  

Grace Delmotte (Second Team)

  • Named Second Team All-ACC

  • Appeared and started in 21 matches

  • Finished tied for second on squad with 23 points

  • Finished tied for the ACC lead in assists (13) after opening round of the NCAA Tournament

  • Added a career-high tying five goals

  • Scored career-high two goals and dished out an assist for a career-high tying five points at Cal (Sept. 11)

  • Dished out two assists against Lafayette (Sept. 2), UC Davis (Sept. 9) and Syracuse (Oct. 28)

  • Attempted a season-high six shots on goal against Cal (Sept. 11)

  • Scored game-winning goals in back-to-back matches against Duke (Oct. 2) and Davidson (Oct. 3) 

Nat Friedman (Second Team)

  • Named Second Team All-ACC

  • Made starts in all 21 matches

  • Recorded season-high two assists at Brown (Oct. 23)

  • Additionally notched an assist against Ohio State (Sept. 18), Louisville (Oct. 7) and Syracuse (Oct. 28)

  • Fired six of 18 shot attempts on goal

  • Attempted multiple shots in matches against Iowa (Aug. 26).
