Summiel Named Finalist for Coach Wooden Collegiate Citizenship Cup

In addition to being an impactful performer on the court for the women’s basketball team, Olivia Summiel has been an exemplary example of the Pro Humanitate spirit in the classroom and community during her time at Wake Forest.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Wake Forest women's basketball senior forward Olivia Summiel was announced as a finalist for the Coach Wooden Collegiate Citizenship Cup, as announced by Athletes for a Better World Tuesday afternoon.
The winners of the Coach Wooden Collegiate Citizenship Cup will be announced in January and the ceremony will take place in April.
In addition to being an impactful performer on the court for the women's basketball team, Olivia Summiel has been an exemplary example of the Pro Humanitate spirit in the classroom and community during her time at Wake Forest.
Since arriving on campus in the summer of 2019, Summiel has been impactful and a leader for not only the Wake Forest women's basketball team, but also the Wake Forest student-athlete community as a whole and the university wide community while also maintaining a stellar academic record and on court performance.
A two-year starter, Summiel has played in 77 games, making 35 starts while helping lead the Demon Deacons to postseason eligibility in each of her previous three seasons at Wake Forest including the program's second ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament during the 2020-21 season.
Her senior season on the court has been her best yet, averaging 7.6 points per game which ranks fourth on the team and she has three games of 12 or more points in the first eight games of the season. Additionally, she has got it done on the defensive end of the floor with a team-best 12 blocks including two games of four or more blocks. Summiel also has averaged 5.8 rebounds per game and ranked second among returning ACC players in rebounds per game from the 2021-22 season.
In the classroom, Summiel has made the ACC Academic Honor Roll for three consecutive years and has made the Dean's List every semester she has been on campus. She is on track to graduate with a degree in Business & Enterprise Management in May of 2023 and Summiel holds an impressive 3.59 grade-point average as she finishes up her senior year fall semester.
She had an internship with the ACC last summer working in their compliance office in Greensboro, N.C., learning the role that the compliance office serves at a conference level. Additionally, she has been very involved in the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee both on campus, the conference level and now the national level of SAAC. In this role she has helped form legislation that improves the student-athlete experience, working hand-and-hand with the NCAA.
Since arriving on campus, Summiel has not only been a stellar student and athlete at Wake Forest, but she has also been very involved on campus and in the community. This fall, Summiel helped moderate a Face-to-Face speaker series with renowned historian and American writer, reviewer, historian and presidential biographer, Jon Meacham. She also helped play a key role in the Face-to-Face series that helped bring former President George W. Bush to campus to speak to Wake Forest students, faculty and the Winston-Salem community.
Over her time at Wake Forest, Summiel has totaled 20 total hours of community service since being on campus over 16 different commitments.
