2/18/2022 12:00:00 PM | Men's Basketball
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest second year men's basketball head coach Steve Forbes has been named to the 2022 Werner Ladder Naismith Men's Coach of the Year Late Season Watch List. Coach Forbes was the only Atlantic Coast Conference coach selected to the list.
In just his second year at the helm of the Demon Deacons, Coach Forbes has led Wake Forest to 20 overall wins for the first time since the 2009-10 season (20-11) and 10 conference wins since the 2008-09 season (11-5). This season was also the most non-conference wins since the 2013-14 season (10).
Over the course of the conference season, Forbes has led the Deacs to milestone after milestone. In January, Wake Forest won back-to-back conference road games for the first time since the 2008-09 season (at Virginia, at Georgia Tech). And it was the first time Wake Forest has won at both schools in over a decade.
Going back to the start of the conference season, Wake Forest won both their road ACC opener (at Virginia Tech Dec. 4) and their ACC home opener (vs Florida State Jan. 4) for the first time since the 2008-09 season. The Deacs swept Florida State this year for the first time since the 2007-08 season.
Wake Forest's six ACC wins during the month of January mark the program's most since the 1996-97 season.
Wake Forest has defeated seven ACC opponents by at least 15 points for the first time ever, and is the only team in the league to do so this season -
The Deacs continue conference play Saturday, Feb. 19 at home against Notre Dame. The game will tip at 1 p.m. inside Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum and air live on Bally Sports South and other regional sports networks.
