No. 6 Deacs Topple No. 14 Texas, 4-2 to Cap Off the ITA Indoor National Championships

Wake Forest clinched the match when sophomore No. 35 Filippo Moroni won a three-set battle over Texas' Eliot Spizzirri, 1-6, 6-4, 6-3. Moroni earned his second clinch of the weekend in come-from-behind action.
SEATTLE, Wash. – The No. 6 Wake Forest men's tennis team defeated 14th-ranked Texas in consolation, 4-2 Sunday to cap off the ITA Indoor National Championships in Seattle.
The Deacs (15-4) clinched the match when sophomore No. 35 Filippo Moroni won a three-set battle over Texas' Eliot Spizzirri, 1-6, 6-4, 6-3. Moroni earned his second clinch of the weekend in come-from-behind action.

How It Happened
Texas took the doubles point, with a 6-3 win by Eliot Spizzirri and Richard Ciamarra on court three over the 19th-ranked pairing of Ben Draper and Robert Maciag. That preceded a 6-1 victory on court two by Micah Braswell and Chih Chi Huang to give the Longhorns the early 1-0 advantage.
In singles action, Wake Forest split the first sets, with graduates Jakob Schnaitter, No. 71 Eduardo Nava and junior No. 118 Taha Baadi winning their first sets.
Wake Forest's first singles win came on court six, as Schnaitter picked up a 6-4, 6-4 win over Evin McDonald.
Junior #118 Baadi was the next Deac to claim a singles victory, as he went two sets with No. 75 Richard Ciamarra and won 6-3, 6-3, taking the first lead, 2-1.
Texas earned their first singles victory on court one with a win over No. 51 Melios Efstathiou, 6-4, 6-3.
Moroni's clinch came on court four battling back to take the final two sets and send the Deacs home with two wins over the weekend.
No. 99 Jurabek Karimov forced a clutch third set against No. 62 Pierre-Yves Bailly on court two before the match was clinched.
