Fitzpatrick Claims Fifth Consecutive Top-20 Finish

The senior from Sheffield, England recorded his lowest round of the week in the final round to finish tied for 16th on the individual leaderboard.
PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. -- On the final day of the Watersound Invitational, the No. 12 Wake Forest men's golf team was led by another under-par performance from senior Alex Fitzpatrick.
The Demon Deacons finished 12th with a 54-hole score of 882 (+18). For the second consecutive day, Fitzpatrick saw his position rise on the individual leaderboard, turning in the low round for the Deacs and his low round of the weekend.
On Wednesday, the Sheffield, England native carded a final round 70 (-2) to claim his fifth consecutive top-20 finish of the season. His final round pushed him up 15 spots on the leaderboard to help him tie for 16th at 1-under-par for the tournament.
Fitzpatrick also is the current No. 4 ranked player in the World Amateur Golf rankings and is No. 5 on the PGA Tour University rankings. Following sophomore Michael Brennan's PGA Tour debut last week at the Genesis Invitational, Fitzpatrick is less than a month away from making his own debut on Tour at the Valspar Championship from Thursday, March 17 to Sunday March 20.
Fellow senior Parker Gillam turned in his second top-30 finish of the season, finishing tied for 28th on the individual leaderboard at 2-over-par for the tournament. His other top-30 finish of the season came when the Demon Deacons captured the 2021 Old Town Club Collegiate Invitational, winning by a tournament-record score.

Up Next
The Demon Deacons return to the course for its second home event of the season when they go to historic Pinehurst No. 2 for the Wake Forest Invitational at Pinehurst No. 2.
The first round of the event is scheduled for Monday, March 7 with 36 holes scheduled to be played on the opening day.
