Kuehn Leads Deacs on Day One of UCF Challenge

Rachel Kuehn, Mimi Rhodes and Carolina Chacarra sit inside the top 10 after the first round of the UCF Challenge.
ORLANDO, Fla. – The Wake Forest women's golf team is one stroke off the lead of the UCF Challenge at Eagle Creek Golf Club. After the first 18 holes, three Demon Deacons sit inside the top 10 on the individual leaderboard.
Wake Forest led the field in scoring on par four holes, going -8 over 10 par fours. The team recorded 13 birdies and 75 pars throughout the day for a team score of 277, 11 under par. Virunpat Olankitkunchai led the field with 18 pars for a perfect scorecard at the end of round one. Lauren Walsh was right behind her with 16 pars and an even scorecard. They are currently T38 in the 99-player field.
Rachel Kuehn had the second-most birdies in the field with five for a five-under score of 67. She is currently T2 and just one stroke off the lead. After shooting eight straight pars, a birdie on the par-five 13th gave Kuehn the boost she needed. She had four more birdies over her final eight holes of the day.
Carolina Chacarra was right behind Kuehn with four birdies to put her T9 and three strokes off the lead. After a bogey on her fourth hole, she birdied three of her next five and one more on her 16th hole of the day to finish the round three under par.
Mimi Rhodes is also T9 after recording two birdies on her first nine holes and one birdie on her second nine and no bogeys. As a team, Wake Forest only recorded two bogeys during the first round, which were offset by the team's 13 birdies.
Round Two
Round two will begin with a shotgun start at 8:45 Monday morning. Wake Forest will be paired with Kentucky and Miami, off holes one, two and three.
