Demon Deacons Set for First Matchup with NC State

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest men's basketball team will kick off their season series with Big Four rival NC State on Wednesday, February 9 inside PNC Arena.
 
The Demon Deacons (19-5, 9-4) have won six of their last seven contests and currently sit in sole possession of second place in the ACC standings following their 68-60 road victory over Florida State on Saturday. Notre Dame and Duke are tied for the top spot in the standings.
 
After nearly obtaining his second triple-double of the season against Pittsburgh (15 points, 10 rebounds, nine assists), Alondes Williams scored 23 points, grabbed eight rebounds, dished four assists and tallied a pair of steals against the Seminoles.
 
Williams currently leads the ACC in both points and assists and is the only player in the country averaging at least 19.0 points (19.8), 7.0 rebounds (7.0), and 5.0 assists (5.2). The Milwaukee product has the opportunity to be the first player to finish the season leading the ACC in points and assists since the conference began tracking assists in 1973.
 
Saturday also saw Jake LaRavia nearly post a triple-double, as the Indianapolis native finished with 18 points, 13 rebounds, and nine assists on 7-of-10 shooting.
 
With LaRavia's season averages of 15.1 points and 3.6 assists, the Williams/LaRavia duo is averaging 34.9 points per game and 8.8 assists per game, making them the top scoring tandem in the ACC and the runner-up pair in assists.
 
Through 13 ACC games, the Demon Deacons lead the conference in both team (49.7) and opponent field goal percentage (39.7). Wake Forest has held eight of its first 13 ACC opponents to below 40 percent shooting.
 
Additionally, the Demon Deacons rank fifth in conference play in made free throws per game (13.3), third in total rebounds per game (37.2), second in blocks per game (4.2) and second in assists per game (15.7).
 
The Wolfpack (10-14, 3-10) are on a four-game losing streak following their 69-57 defeat to Notre Dame at home and are currently tied for 14th in the ACC standings. NC State freshman guard Terquavion Smith leads the conference in made three-pointers with 69 makes on the season.
 
Tipoff inside PNC Arena is scheduled for 7 p.m. and the game will air live on ACC Network.
