Wake Forest Takes Lead After Second Round of Darius Rucker

HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Wake Forest women's golf team recorded the lowest, and only under par, score in the field on Tuesday to jump up the leaderboard three spots and take the lead after the second round of play at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate.
The Deacs have four players inside the top 20 heading into Wednesday's final round with freshman Carolina Chacarra tied for second and just one stroke off the lead. Junior Lauren Walsh finished two under par for T7 spot on the board while junior Rachel Kuehn improved two strokes to sit T13. Sophomore Mimi Rhodes improved a stroke and sits T20 heading into the final day.
Wake Forest leads all teams in the field in scoring on par fours and par fives. The Deacs have also recorded the most birdies in the field so far with 28. Chacarra leads the field individually with 10 birdies, five from her first round and five from her second. Kuehn has the fourth-most in the field with seven, five of which came in her second round. Rhodes has recorded the fourth-most pars in the field with 27 over her 36 holes.
For the second day in a row, Chacarra, Kuehn and Walsh all birdied their final holes of the day. This time it was the par-four 18th. Chacarra birdied the ninth, entering the turn at two under for the day. Two more birdies on 15 and 18 mainted her under-par round. Kuehn birdied five and eight to enter the turn at even par. She also went low on 15 and 18 to maintain her even round. Walsh went bogey-free on the first nine, including back-to-back birdies on the fourth and fifth holes. The birdie on 18 maintained Walsh's score of three under for the day. Rhodes also went bogey-free on her first nine with a birdie on the par-four fifth hole. Another birdie on 15 kept her just one over for the day.
Final Round
Wake Forest will be paired with Baylor and Arizona State for Wednesday's final round. Tee times for the Deacs begin at 11:20 in 10-minute intervals off the first tee.
